Slow Animals and Highly Suspect

It's been far far too long and I have a lot I'd like to say on here, but for now I'm gonna stick to a few basics.

First of all, I'm in Nashville for the summer working at Vandy! So happy to be able to stay in this city for just a while longer. Since I have been working, I've invested in Spotify and lately I've just been listening to a playlist I made that consists of The Strokes' entire catalogue. Today, my favourite is "Slow Animals" from Comedown Machine.

In other news, Highly Suspect are going places guys! Saw these fellas last summer opening for Chevelle and (being the asshole that I am, I normally don't enjoy openers all that much) but this band completely enthralled me. Since, I've been eager for more music and finally it's coming: July 17th is the release of their first full-length album. Until then, I've been relying on singles to get me through. "Lydia" and "Bath Salts" will remain my favourites though, I think. The thing that I love about Highly Suspect besides their amazing stage presence and the incredible integrity in their music is that you can just see IT in these guys. They want IT. They are just starting out (relatively) and they just love making music and jamming. Those are the marks of a good band. I don't care what anyone says, if you're in it for anything but the music, you're kidding yourself. And these guys mean it. They FEEL it. The late night rambles that Johnny, their frontman, posts online are soul-awakening kinds of things that make you realize what being HUMAN means. Just please do yourself a huge favour and check these people out. #MCID

Anyway, there's a lot more I'd like to write but I'm out of time.

10 Songs Right Now

It's been too long since I've posted on here, but I've been busy this semester!

I am in the midst of studying for finals and just had a busy Thanksgiving Break. Now I'm just waiting for the 13th so that I can go back home and relax for Christmas!

I thought I'd just shout out a few of my favourite songs at the moment. Some are part of my all-time favourite list, but others are just some I'm into right now. I'm numbering them but they aren't in any particular order. Hope you find some new music to dig out of this list!

1) Flashed Junk Mind - Milky Chance
2) Jawbreaker - Chevelle
3) Dialysis - It's Alive
4) Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
5) R U Mine? - Arctic Monkeys
6) Minus the Machine - 10 Years
7) Creep - Radiohead
8) The Way You Make Me Feel - Michael Jackson
9) Dangerous - Big Data
10) Boneless - Steve Aoki

Back on the Grind

Well hello out there!

Today marks 6 days back in Nashville and so far it's been amazing and extremely busy. The drive down was decent and moving in was fun because I'm now living in a 6 person suite with some friends. Amanda is back molding the artistic youths in Missouri! So far for me there's been a good mix of class and extra-curriculars to keep me busy. Yesterday I spent 3 hours in a hot tent outside trying to recruit freshmen to join the sailing team and today I spent 5 hours power washing our precious little F-J boats in the 100 degree sun. BRUTAL. But still fun to hang out with the Vandy sailors.

Also, I went to the Chevelle show in Chattanooga and it was amazing as usual! Ended up with a setlist and got to talk to Jackie and Chris before I left! Overall, it was the perfect end to my last official night of summer.

Other than that stuff, I'm just getting used to being back on that college grind. Let's hope I can do everything I need to this year and get out alive! Kidding...but still.

Hasta luego y'all.

el verano

Hey Hey!

I sit here watching Seinfeld, about halfway through summer, wondering how time passes so quickly. I've been home for about 2 months and I'm working part-time. As for what I've been up to: I got into a car accident (but no worries I'm okay), I've had a few fun days at the pool with Amanda, and most recently I went to the beach in North Carolina to visit my extended family!

As for what's ahead, I'm hoping for a few Chevelle concerts and Vegas with Amanda and Devon. I think Amanda and I have realized that the summer tour of 2010 will never happen again so we just kind of need to roll with the punches and make the best of the concerts we can go to. That tour was something that will always be in the back of my mind. However, Chevelle is about 10,000 times more fun to see live because the music/show is so good! I'm gonna see them solo in Chattanooga on 8/19 so that should be a good cap to a solid summer.

Other than this stuff, I've just been chilling. I realize that since I've started this blog, I've been posting less and less; but I suppose that's just a product of being busy with growing up. Speaking of growing up, I graduate college in about 10 months. Fuck. I mean I'm definitely excited but I need to figure out my plans after Vanderbilt.

Anyway, I'm gonna try to keep up more often on here (which I suppose is easier said than done), not that anyone is waiting for the second I submit these random musings.

SURFBORT BIRTHDAY

Hello there!

Just wanted to post a little something because I'm sure I won't get around to another one until after Summer starts (which for me is April 29!!!)

Today is my 21st birthday! wut wut It's been solid so far; although it's only consisted of going to class. But I'm going to dinner later with some friends so that should be fun! Saturday I'm heading to STL to see Chevelle with Amanda! It's been too damn long. I mean the last concert I went to was SP in Lancaster and we all know how that went (and if you don't remember, all I can say is it did not end ideally...but it's for the best!) So anyway, this Saturday I'll be having a blast! Also, it is absolutely necessary that everyone listens to the new Chevelle album "La Gárgola" which came out today. If not, you're missing out

Hope the week is going well for everyone else out there :)

Hasta Luego,

PS I do say it's the shit if I do say so myself...if I do say so myself...if I do say so myself

Updates

This is going to be short and to the point.

It's been several months since I've blogged on here. However, I wasn't completely inactive in the blog world. My sister and I went on a summer tour through the Northeast for SP (the last time that will happen) and we blogged about our adventures here -->    http://concerttravelerconfessions.blogspot.com/

Believe me, reading that is worth the drama. To put it in a few words: we said some things that were true, Shim took it the wrong way, the truth came out. And here we are. Their new album is honestly shit (minus about 2 gems) compared to the old stuff and I'm (well WE) are over it. The music is pop...not what I signed up for. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I'm sure they've sold their once musical, naive souls to the record deal gods to become successful. And it fucking sucks. But whatever.

Anyway, I'm in Nashville at Vanderbilt. AND I LOVE IT. Nashville is amazing, Vandy is amazing. I miss NYU a little sometimes but not enough to ever question my decision to transfer.

There's so much more to say and catch up on but I'm busy procrastinating right now. So until next time,

A Tale of Three Cities

It's officially summer now!! I have been waiting for this for what seems like an eternity and...I'm already sick of it. Kidding. But I could do without the humidity. Anyway, my sister and I have already had a nice little mini-concert tour to start the summer off in preparation for the real deal in August. We saw HURT in Springfield, Mo, Kansas City, and tiny little shithole called Algona, Iowa. If you ever get the chance to visit this village, don't. But in all seriousness we had a fun time and made some interesting memories. We got introduced to a great new opening band that we actually liked which surprisingly doesn't happen that often. Check out Righteous Vendetta if you have the chance! Their music is great and the guys are even greater! Springfield and KC were fun...but Algona proved to be really awkward considering there were approximately 10 people at the venue including me, my sister, and the bands so.......

We got caught chatting in the moshpit by RV...oops ;)

However, this awkwardness could have been worse and now Amanda and I are ready for our KV13 trip in August. I've mentioned KV13 a few times throughout this blog and now it's finally happening. Don't ask me what it means 'cause I ain't gonna tell ya...all I can tell you is that it is going to be amazing!! Luckily a tour has finally been announced too so we can work our way to KV13 in Boston while also going to a thousand concerts. It's an SP tour which probably sounds dumb since everyone thinks we hate them now. For the record, we don't. We're just....disappointed. But it will be a blast nonetheless. Our plan tentatively now is some magical route to Richmond; then we have a few days to fuck around in Richmond, DC, and Annapolis. Then it's something like Delaware, Rhode Island, Boston, a couple places in Upstate NY and blah blah blah. Essentially we're going to be gone for 13 days so if anyone has a place to offer us to stay we wouldn't be opposed hahah. I'm so excited!

In other news, I finally finished the first season of Revolution and it was awesome! I officially am enrolled in Vanderbilt now! And my last 2 silly bands broke from Summer 2010...boo. Hopefully this was at least somewhat entertaining for you. Adios
